Yaps Privacy Policy
Yaps is designed so posts look anonymous to the public while still allowing safety review and legal compliance internally. Last updated: May 11, 2026.
1. Information We Collect
We collect account information such as email address, username, internal user ID, verification state, password hash for email/password accounts, OAuth provider identifiers, sessions, subscription entitlement state, and account status. We collect user-generated content such as posts, comments, likes/upvotes, reports, and report details.
We collect technical and safety information such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, rate-limit events, moderation actions, admin audit logs, and device/app diagnostics if monitoring is configured. We collect payment entitlement data from the app store or subscription provider, such as product ID, entitlement ID, subscription status, transaction identifiers, expiration date, revocation, refund, or cancellation status.
2. Location Information
When you allow location access, Yaps uses location to load nearby posts, apply the selected feed radius, create local posts, prevent spam, and support safety investigations. Other users do not receive exact coordinates for your posts. Yaps may store exact post coordinates and coarse account location metadata internally so the server can calculate distance, enforce product rules, investigate reports, and respond to valid legal or emergency requests.
3. Public Anonymous Display
Public users can see your username, post or comment content, timestamp, category, vote count, comment count, and coarse nearby context where available. Public users are not shown your email address, real name, login provider, internal user ID, IP address, session data, exact coordinates, or payment details.
4. How We Use Information
We use information to create and secure accounts, verify email, provide the nearby feed, create posts, allow logged-in voting, verify Yapper's Tier commenting access, process reports, moderate content, prevent spam and abuse, debug errors, maintain service reliability, comply with law, and enforce the Terms and Community Guidelines.
5. Moderation, Safety Review, And Admin Access
Admins and moderators may access reported content, moderation history, account metadata, reporter information, device/session data, IP address, timestamps, and location metadata only for safety, legal compliance, abuse investigation, fraud prevention, or enforcement. Revealing sensitive information requires a reason and is logged in an audit trail.
6. Legal Process And Emergency Disclosure
Yaps may preserve, access, review, disclose, or report information when legally required or when Yaps reasonably believes disclosure is necessary to protect users, prevent imminent harm, investigate threats, exploitation, harassment, fraud, or platform abuse, comply with valid legal process, enforce policies, or protect the rights, safety, and security of Yaps, users, or the public.
7. Service Providers
Yaps may use providers for hosting, PostgreSQL database services, email delivery, OAuth login, Apple in-app purchase or subscription entitlement verification, monitoring, crash reporting, analytics, and customer support. These providers process information only for the services they provide to Yaps and must be configured before production launch.
8. Retention And Deletion
You can delete your account in Settings. Deletion disables the account, revokes sessions, removes or disables login credentials, clears stored account location metadata where appropriate, and anonymizes public account identifiers. Yaps may retain posts, comments, reports, moderation logs, payment entitlement records, backups, and legal records for feed integrity, user safety, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, chargebacks, legal compliance, or enforcement.
9. Your Choices
You can browse the public feed without logging in. You can deny location permission, but nearby feed and local posting features may be limited. You can report content, mute usernames locally, cancel Yapper's Tier through your app-store account, and delete your account in Settings.
